Ol’ Dirty Bastard Biopic Coming Soon, Confirmed by RZA

Looks like hip hop biopics are the wave. We got a dosage of the story behind N.W.A with “Straight Outta Compton,” the Tupac Shakur biopic is (still) in the works and now hip hop heads may be in for a special treat.

An Ol’ Dirty Bastard biopic is coming soon and has been confirmed by RZA. He told the Rolling Stone:

“I think it’s a great idea, and there has been talk about it. There are a few wheels in motion with one done by our first cousin Rayshawn; he was the young guy there watching everything that happened.  Him and ODB’s wife have been talking and he has a pretty interesting script. I just saw a 12-minute teaser that he shot about a year ago and it felt pretty fucking cool. I watched it and was like, ‘Wow, you may have something here.’ He has the best thing that I’ve seen so far.”

RZA was asked by Rayshawn to direct the project, but will the Wu-Tang producer accept?

“I wouldn’t mind not doing it and I wouldn’t mind doing it. From the age of six, me and [ODB] used to push shopping carts around grocery stores and try to get nickels. There are very few people who know the real him as much as me. So it would be something that I would be honored to do, but there’s a lot of moving parts to it. If those moving parts don’t go in sync with me, I’ll still be on it just to see it happen, talk to whoever’s doing it and give them my interviews or whatever they need to help make this story as great as possible.”

RZA feels that “Straight Outta Compton” paved the way for more hip hop biopics.

“Straight Outta Compton showed that hip-hop is a marketplace in cinema. I always believed that the art we was creating was audio-visual, and it was headed towards visual-audio. And that’s why you see me in this world — my own heart drove me here — and I’m glad that a movie like that breaks out and does such numbers that it’s almost undeniable. It showed that with the proper team and marketing, many of us out here who grew up on this music would love to see the inside makings of those stories.”

Rumor has it that Eddie Griffin and Tracy Morgan are both prospects for the role of ODB, although nothing has been confirmed.

Tupac Shakur Biopic News: Danai Gurira Cast as Tupac’s Mother Afeni Shakur

Some interesting news has developed about the Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez On Me. They’ve finally cast someone to play the role of Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur.

The Walking Dead actress Danai Gurira (a.k.a. the woman with the sword) will hit the screen as Tupac’s mother and fans couldn’t be happier. She’s actually perfect for the role.
We tend to associate actors with their characters, so playing the mother of the infamous West Coast rapper isn’t far fetched for Gurira. On The Walking Dead series she plays a strong, smart woman that gives zombies a run for their money.
Taking on the role of the “Dear Mama” rapper should be easy for Danai Gurira to transition into. Not to mention, it’s something Tupac fans can really look forward to; in a short time on the small screen Gurira has made an impact on TWD series.
Given the traits of Afeni Shakur, it will be interesting to see her character come into fruition in the Tupac Shakur biopic, “All Eyez On Me.”

Love & Hip Hop New York Season 6 Episode 1 Recap

Last night millions of viewers tuned into the Love & Hip Hop New York Season 6 Episode 1 premier and it was well worth it.

Remy Ma and Papoose were introduced to the small screen and fans got an inside look at their relationship. Hip hop’s hottest couple started off on the right foot as the Brooklyn rapper proposal to Remy. Yes, they are already married, but since his wife was incarcerated at the time, Papoose wanted an official engagement. Will Papoose and Remy Ma be the next LHH couple to wed on national television?

Rich Dollaz, president of The Creep Squad quietly (for now) returned for another season, unlike his friend Peter Gunz who can’t seem to get enough of the drama.

Gunz wanted to be one happy family, so he convinced his ex Tara to move…in the same building as he and Amina. As if that wasn’t enough, he helped Tara move, stood over her new apartment and gave Amina the infamous “I was in the studio” excuse for not coming home that night.

There have been rumors of Tara being pregnant with another one Peter Gunz’s children (because he doesn’t have enough children). Those speculations might prove to be true because you can see her belly in the sneak peek of Love and Hip Hop season 6 episode 2. Things are about to get interesting.

We were also introduced to hip hop girl group BBOD and got an inside look at their beef with Bianca a.k.a Young B. Up-and-coming artist Mariah got caught in the crossfire at DJ Self’s Gwinning event, as BBOD and Bianca went toe to toe leaving Mariah confused on whether or not it was a showcase or rap battle.

Things got messy between BBOD and Young B leaving each of their managers (Rah Ali and Yandy) questioning their decision to manage them.

Yandy and Mendeecees await his fate, as his court sentence was still pending (at the time).

Cardi B didn’t make her appearance leaving Love and Hip Hop aficionados disappointed. Guess producers are holding the real drama for Love & Hip Hop New York season 6 episode 2.

Stay tuned…
