The Grammys are one of the most anticipated music events of the year, but this year’s award ceremony had more than one fail. Beyonce was snubbed for “Best Album of the Year” and there was a lack of hip hop representation at the Grammys 2015.
Many can agree; hip hop is an essential component of the music industry. From Mc Donald’s advertisements and the new “Beggin” doggy treats commercial, to marketing for fashion empires like Gucci and Luis Vuitton, hip hop music plays a significant role in the music industry and should be treated as such.
Unfortunately although there are a number of extremely talented hip hop artists, the Grammys failed to give the public that amazing performance we all waited for throughout the 4 hours of pop performances.
If the lack of hip hop performances wasn’t enough, ’90s alternative rock artist Beck won the award for “Album of the Year” at the Grammys over Beyonce’s self titled album. Here’s what Kanye had to say:
“I don’t know what he said. All I know is if the Grammys want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more. ‘Flawless,’ Beyoncé video. Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it.”
The Yeezus rapper continued, “Because what happens is, when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration and we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place.”
“Then they do this whole promotional event, they’ll run the music over somebody’s speech, the artist, because they want commercial advertising. Like, no, we not playing with them no more. By the way, I got my wife, my daughter and my clothing line, so I’m not going to do nothing to put my daughter at risk, but I am here to fight for creativity. That’s the reason why I didn’t say anything tonight. But you all know what it meant when ‘Ye walks on the stage.”
With the “On The Run Tour” and chart-topping singles, did anyone see her NOT winning “Album of the Year?” While Kanye West has been classified as “crazy,” for his opinions, is he in fact mad? Is Kanye West wrong about Beyonce deserving the “Album of the Year” Grammy award?
Do you think the 2015 Grammys snubbed Beyonce for “Album of the Year?” Was there a lack of hip hop representation at this year’s award ceremony?
